THE HISTORY OF THE RENO RODEO & AG. SOCIETY
The idea of putting on a rodeo in Consul had been talked about for several years. In January of 2008 Randy Stokke, Dan Black, Carl Parsonage, Travis Erickson, Scott Pridmore, John Beierbach and Doug Richards met at the Richards' place and decided to officially form The Reno Rodeo & Ag. Society. The name was registered and was officially incorporated on January 20, 2008.
The object of The Reno Rodeo & Ag. Society is to promote and produce a rodeo in Consul... to perserve our western culture and for the enjoyment and fellowship of the people of Consul, and surrounding communities.
After expenses of the rodeo and upkeep of the rodeo grounds, as well as some funds to keep the rodeo viable, any monies remaining is to be shared among various local groups and organizations. In 2008 donations were made to: Consul Rink Board, Consul Ambulance, Consul Senior Centre, Robsart 4H Club, Govenlock Hall, Merryflat Hall, and Consul Hall.
James Blakley generously offered the society permission to construct an arena on a piece of his land just outside Consul. Thanks to the outpouring of donations in labour, materials, volunteers and sponsorships, a rodeo arena was constructed and ready in time for the 1st Annual Reno Rodeo on August 3rd and 4th, 2008!
